Electronic Pet Doors: Access for the Animal Wearing the Key

Every product in the grid above works on one principle: the door stays shut and locked until its reader detects the key or tag your own pet wears, lets that pet through, then locks again. A stray, a raccoon or the neighbor's cat finds it closed.

Shop here when wildlife has found the flap, when one pet may go out and another may not, or when you want the opening sealed on demand.

Collar Keys, Smart Tags and Where the Power Comes From

In this grid · Battery, plug-in or hardwired

RFID selective-entry doors

Each pet wears a key or tag programmed into the door; the reader recognizes it on approach and unlatches for that animal alone. All seven products here work this way, running on batteries, a wall outlet or a hardwired line depending on the model.

Not in this grid · Rechargeable battery

App-connected smart doors

A motorized door built of steel and aluminum, held by twin steel deadbolts until a smart tag comes near, reporting each trip to your phone. Per-pet schedules, app or voice locking, and a size for pets to 200 pounds. Arrange one through our electronic pet door installation service.

Door, Wall, Track or Sash: What Each Opening Needs

Exterior doors · Cut and framed

Wood, fiberglass, steel or PVC slabs

Both the rigid panel and the battery collar-key door are framed for a standard slab. If you are leaning toward the plug-in version, note where the closest outlet sits.

Walls · Cut, framed and tunneled

Stud framing to poured concrete

The rigid panel's wall series runs an aluminum tunnel through brick, block, concrete or stud framing as deep as 12 inches. The battery door, with its wall kit, suits only a wall 1.5 to 2 inches thick.

Sliding glass doors · Nothing cut

The track, not the pane

The electronic patio inserts stand in the track beside the moving panel and lift out with no cutting. The dog versions come in dual or single pane glass, with a rise that sets the door at your pet's shoulder.

Sash windows · Nothing cut

Single-hung or double-hung

The raccoon-proof insert sits under the lifted sash, held by a spring-loaded end: tempered glass, small or large opening, single or insulated glazing.

Two placements belong to the smart door alone: new custom-cut glass where no solid panel exists, or the face of a two-flap insulated pet door. Want a plain flap with no electronics? See the door mount and wall mount collections.

Photo, Pet Measurements, Nearest Outlet: Text Us All Three

A picture of the opening, your pet's shoulder height and widest measurement, and the closest outlet if a plug-in model is in the running. Text it to 719-301-7678 and back comes the model that fits, the power plan and a quote, most often within the day. Rather talk it through on screen? Book a video consultation.

What Happens Between Ordering and the First Trip Through

1

Recommendation and quote

Photo and measurements in; a model, a power plan and a written quote back.

2

Installer call

A local installer phones 24 to 48 hours after the order to set a date.

3

Install day

Door and wall units are cut in, framed, sealed against air and water and powered; track and sash inserts are fitted and tensioned.

4

Pairing and handover

Keys or tags paired and tried with your pet, open time or schedule set, and every lock mode shown before the installer leaves.

What Moves the Installation Quote

There is no posted installation price for electronic doors on their own. Each project is priced individually, and whatever your written quote shows is the figure that counts.

The quote turns on the opening, a wall's build and depth, the power source, the model and the size of pet it has to pass, and whether a smart door is mounted on top of an insulated flap door you already have. Posted prices for door, wall and glass work sit on the installation cost page, which also notes that smart and controlled-access doors cost more up front.

The Seven Products Above, Grouped by Where They Go

The grid holds two electronic door and wall units, three electronic patio inserts for sliding glass doors and two electronic sash window pet doors. Also listed here: five inserts shared with the patio panel and window collections, included because each holds a door that opens only for a programmed pet.

Two electronic door and wall units:

Rigid panel · Plug-in or hardwired

Plexidor Electronic Dog Door for Doors and Walls

A composite panel that rises like a small garage door and works as a security door once down. Dogs to 125 pounds pass through an opening 12 5/8 inches wide by 19 5/8 tall. Door and wall series, white or bronze, USA-made under a five-year residential warranty.

Battery · Five keys

Petsafe Electronic Dog Door with RFID Collar Tags

The economical pick for an ordinary door slab or, with the wall kit, a wall 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Four D-cell batteries power it, it accepts five programmable keys, and it offers locked, open and key-only settings. Small suits pets to 15 pounds, large to 100.

Three electronic patio inserts:

Insulated glass · Five dogs

PetSafe Electronic Dual-Pane Lockable Patio Pet Door by Security Boss

A lockable track insert with a built-in collar-tag door, under dual pane glass. Rise options line the door up with your pet's shoulder, and it comes out when you move.

Single pane · Five dogs

PetSafe Electronic Single-Pane Lockable Patio Pet Door by Security Boss

The same collar-tag door, lockable frame and rise options, with a single sheet of glass.

Cats · Up to eight

Elite Super Selective Security Boss Sliding Glass Patio Pet Door Insert

A cat flap with programmable RFID, set in a lockable insert: register up to eight cats, see on the LCD which ones are inside, set outdoor-access timers, and lock the flap against a raccoon's paw.

Two electronic sash window pet doors:

Insulated dual pane

Raccoon Proof Sash Window Pet Door (Insulated Dual Pane Glass)

An RFID door in a tempered, insulated glass insert, letting pets with the matching tag in and out and no one else. The spring-loaded end holds it under the sash without tools; small or large opening.

Single pane

Raccoon Proof Sash Window Pet Door (Single Pane Glass)

The same tag-only door and spring-loaded frame in single pane tempered glass.

Who Fits It, Pairs It and Stands Behind It

Orders go to a local installer from a nationwide network, each licensed, bonded and insured, and Portal Pros holds installer certification for the smart door. The electronic installation service page covers the work step by step.

Behind that: 20-plus years fitting pet doors, more than 1,100 customer reviews, and a craftsmanship guarantee that any problem with the installation gets put right. Pet doors ship free, and a share of each sale goes to no-kill animal shelters. Prefer the phone? Call 855-DOG-DOOR.

Electronic Pet Door Questions Before You Buy

What does a raccoon see when it walks up?

A locked door. With no programmed key or tag nearby the reader never fires, the rigid panel stays latched, and the cat insert's flap is locked against prying.

Do I need to hire an electrician?

Usually not. The battery door and the window inserts need nothing; the plug-in rigid panel wants an outlet within reach; only the hardwired version involves a power route, confirmed before the visit.

Which of these goes through a brick wall?

The Plexidor's wall series, whose tunnel spans brick, block, concrete or stud framing to 12 inches. The Petsafe battery door is for a slab or a wall no thicker than 2 inches.

I rent. Is anything in this collection reversible?

Yes: the three patio inserts and both window inserts. They are held by tension, cut nothing and lift out on moving day, which is why renters tend to pick them.

One dog may go out, the other is recovering. Can the door tell them apart?

Yes. Only an animal wearing a programmed key triggers it, so leave the recovering dog's collar bare, or lock the door for everyone. The same approach keeps a house cat in while the dog uses the yard.

Can I shut it for the night?

Every model has a locked setting that holds each pet on its current side; most add a fully open setting for training. The smart door also locks from the app or a voice assistant.

Is it as warm as an insulated flap door?

A rigid panel seals when down. An electronic door with a flap insulates less well than a two-flap insulated door; where winters bite, the smart door can sit on top of an insulated flap door.

Will my cat trigger the dog-sized patio doors?

Probably not: the collar tag those doors read is too big for most cats. The Elite Super Selective insert is the cat answer, with its eight-cat memory and in-or-out display.
