Custom Pet Doors for Doors and Walls

Custom Pet Doors Start With Your Numbers, Not a Size Chart

Each unit in the grid above is built after you order it, to figures you supply. The flap opening, the outer frame, the tunnel on a wall model and the side the locking panel loads from are all set at the factory for one specific door or wall. The custom installation guide covers planning an oversized opening.

Door slabs 1 1/4 to 2 inches thick

Wood, fiberglass, steel or solid-core exterior doors in that band qualify.

Walls 2 to 16 inches deep

2x4 or 2x6 framing, stucco on foam and double-wythe brick fit; past 16 inches, ask first.

Two performance tiers

Standard insulated dual-flap, or an upgrade with an HDPE and composite aluminum locking panel.

Five finishes

Beige, Brown, Dark Bronze, Silver or White to suit the door or trim.

The Jobs Only a Made-to-Measure Door Does

Built to the opening

A Hole That Already Exists

Holes left by older or off-brand pet doors seldom match anything sold today. Give the opening's width and height and the outer frame is made to them, so the new unit covers the old cut with no gaps or patching.

Built to the boundary

A Frame With a Hard Limit on Its Size

Little clearance to the bottom or edge of a door, trim or framing in the way, a wall cut that cannot grow, or an HOA limit on visible hardware: give the largest outer size allowed and the pet opening is maximized within it.

Built to the animal

A Flap Sized to One Specific Dog

Stock charts end at XL; some dogs keep going. Measured shoulder height plus roughly 2 inches sets the opening's height, and the broadest point of chest or hips plus 2 inches or more sets its width. Great Danes, Irish Wolfhounds and Mastiffs are typical cases.

Built to the depth

A Wall Thicker Than Stock Tunnels Reach

Where standard tunnel extensions fall short, a custom wall unit's tunnel is made to your measured depth, anywhere from 2 to 16 inches.

Door, Wall, and the One Detail Fixed Before Anything Is Cut

Door mount · 1 1/4 to 2 inch slabs

Into a Door Slab

The frame is made to either the rough cut or the overall outer size. On install day the opening is cut new or cleaned up, the frame is set with a finished face inside and out, and the edges are sealed. Stock-size dogs belong in the door mount pet door collection.

Wall mount · 2 to 16 inch walls

Through a Framed or Masonry Wall

The rough cut and the tunnel depth are both built to your measurements. The installer pitches the tunnel so water runs outdoors, then frames and seals both faces. Wood framing, stucco, brick and block all work; standard depths are in the wall mount pet door collection.

Set at fabrication · Panel load direction

Which Way the Locking Panel Goes In

The panel slides in from one side, fixed when the unit is built. If a handle, deadbolt, trim, framing or the door's upper edge blocks that path, the unit must load from another side; getting this wrong is a common, costly self-ordering error.

No returns · Checked in person

Why the Order Waits for a Measuring Visit

Custom units cannot be sent back once made, so an installer checks the key dimensions, the clearance on every side of the opening and any wall depth on site. An old hole is also checked for squareness and framing damage, fixed before the frame goes in.

Photograph the Spot, Measure the Dog, Text Both

Send photos of both sides of the door or wall, any old pet door or hole with its width and height, and your dog's shoulder height and widest point. We will say whether custom is needed, settle the configuration and panel direction, and quote, usually the same day. Prefer a live look? Book a video consultation or call 855-DOG-DOOR.

Two Visits, Roughly Four Weeks, One Door That Fits

1

Quote and order

Send photos and figures; the recommended unit, tier, configuration and price come back, usually the same day. You place the order.

2

The measuring visit

A local installer calls within 24 to 48 hours of your order to book a visit that confirms every critical dimension and the panel direction. Only then is fabrication released.

3

Fabrication: two to three weeks

The unit is handcrafted in the USA to the confirmed figures, and the install visit is booked once it arrives. Allow three to four weeks from first contact.

4

Install day: two to four hours

Opening cut or cleaned, frame set and sealed, tunnel pitched on a wall, then flap, panel and seal tested and care explained. Timing depends on the substrate.

What a Custom Installation Costs

The installation cost page posts no separate figure for custom units, so none is given here. Each custom job is quoted from your photos and measurements, and the number your written quote shows is the one that counts. The door's own live price shows in the grid above.

Five Made-to-Order Units: Four for Slabs and Walls, One for Glass

All five are handcrafted to order in Beige, Brown, Dark Bronze, Silver or White. The four door and wall units carry a locking security panel; the upper tier suits harsh climates, heavy traffic or extra security.

Made to your rough cut for 2 to 16 inch walls, with dual vinyl flaps, a precision weather seal, an HDPE and composite aluminum locking panel, and indoor-outdoor carpet lining the tunnel.

Wall · Standard tier

Custom MaxSeal Wall Mount Pet Door

Rough-cut sizing over the same depths, with dual vinyl flaps, magnetic sealing, a locking panel and a carpet-lined tunnel.

Also listed here: the Custom MaxSeal French Door Dog Door. Rather than going into a slab or wall, it replaces one glass pane of a true French door, sized to that pane by square-inch range when no stock unit matches. It comes with one flap or two, UV treated and weatherized, and is fitted through the French door installation process; the French door collection carries stock sizes.

Who Measures It and Who Installs It

Both visits are handled by a local installer drawn from a nationwide licensed, bonded and insured network. The custom door and wall installation service page details the process; you can also add installation when ordering the door.

That network rests on 20-plus years with pet doors and 1,100-plus customer reviews. Workmanship carries a craftsmanship guarantee, pet doors ship free, and part of every sale supports no-kill animal shelters.

Custom Pet Door Questions, Answered Before You Commit

What actually gets made to my measurements?

The outer frame, the pet opening, the tunnel on a wall unit and the panel's load direction. Each unit is handcrafted after your order instead of coming in fixed sizes.

Why does the panel's loading side matter so much?

It cannot be changed. A blocked path means the panel can neither go in nor come out, and the unit cannot be exchanged, so the measuring visit confirms it.

What do I measure, and how?

On the dog: shoulder height from the floor, plus about 2 inches, and width at its broadest, plus 2 inches or more. On an old hole: its exact width and height. On a wall: total depth. Text the figures with photos; nothing is ordered until they are checked.

Can a wrong-size unit be sent back?

No. Custom fabrication is final, which is why dimensions and panel direction are confirmed on site before the factory begins.

Does my wall have to be wood framed?

No. Wood framing, stucco, brick, block and masonry all work; only the tools change. Depth must fall between 2 and 16 inches; beyond that, ask first.

Is the PRO tier worth the extra?

The Custom MaxSeal has dual vinyl flaps, magnetic sealing and a standard locking panel. The Custom MaxSeal PRO swaps in an HDPE and composite aluminum panel with more strength and impact resistance, plus upgraded weatherproofing. It suits harsh climates, busy dogs and security-minded homes.

How long until my dog can use it?

Usually three to four weeks: an installer call within 24 to 48 hours, the measuring visit, two to three weeks at the factory, then an install of two to four hours.

Which unit fits a French door with divided panes?

The Custom MaxSeal French Door Dog Door, sized to one pane. The four door and wall units are for solid slabs and walls.
