Two Easy Ways to Get It Done
🐾 The Kit — DIY in About an Hour
Everything arrives in one box: the SB4 dog door, pre-assembled trim to fit framing bars, pet resistant screen, spline, screws and the roller tool. Trim the two tall bars to your panel height — one straight cut each, and the cut ends hide under your rails — then everything just goes together. No hardware store runs, no guesswork.
🛠️ The Kit + Our Installer
Prefer to watch from a lounge chair? A licensed and/or insured Portal Pros installer brings your kit and installs it start to finish — most jobs are done in about an hour, backed by our craftsmanship guarantee.
Why the Kit Fits Every Lanai — and Goes Anywhere You Want
Here's the secret that makes this so simple: the dog door never touches your lanai's framing. Our kit bars frame the opening, and the SB4 clamps onto those bars — which are always the same. So it doesn't matter if your enclosure is skinny roll-formed aluminum, chunky 2" pool cage extrusion, or a wood framed porch. Your framing is never cut, never modified, and never has to be measured for thickness.
And because the door lives on our bars instead of your frame, it can go anywhere in the panel — not just a corner. Pick the exact spot your pet actually uses: middle of the wall, next to the patio furniture path, facing the yard gate. The bars go where the door goes.
What's in the Box
- SB4 Screen Dog Door by Security Boss — sized to your pet, in White or Dark Bronze, with the optional blocking panel
- Pre-assembled trim to fit framing bars — standard length for panels up to 8 feet tall, labeled to match the instructions; the trimmed ends disappear under your rails
- Pet resistant screen — about seven times stronger than standard mesh, cut to your panel with margin to spare
- Spline, color matched screws, a 1/8" drill bit and the roller tool — nothing left to buy
- Illustrated instructions matched to your labeled parts
Ordering Takes About Two Minutes
No site visit, no measuring your framing. Text us or email sales@theportalpros.com with three things, and we handle the rest:
- Your pet's shoulder height and widest point — this sets the door size
- Your framing color — White or Bronze
- A photo of the panel, inside and outside if possible, so we can give your setup a thumbs up before it ships
The kit fits panels up to 8 feet tall right out of the box. Most quotes go out the same day.
The Install — Four Steps, About an Hour
Everything below arrives done for you except the four steps in the picture. Or skip all of it and have our installer do it while you relax.
Stand the Two Tall Bars
Measure rail to rail and trim both tall bars to match — one straight cut each, about two minutes, and both cut ends hide under the rail overlaps anyway. Then hold each bar where you want the door and drive the included anchor screws top and bottom. The heads sit down inside the bar's spline channel — you'll never see them again.
Add the Top Bar
The short bar bridges the two tall bars right above where the door will sit. Two screws per end, pre-drilled points marked.
Clamp On the SB4
The door's two piece frame sandwiches the bars — one half outside, one half inside — and screws together. This is the fastest and most satisfying step of the whole job.
Respline the Screen
Lay the included pet resistant screen over the panel and roll the spline into the channels with the included roller — right over every screw head, burying them for good. Push test, done. Your pet handles the rest.
No Visible Screws — Here's the Trick
The bars in your kit arrive pre-joined at our shop, so the only screws you drive are the anchors — and every one of them lands inside the bar's spline channel. When the screen and spline roll in during step four, they roll in right on top of the screw heads and bury them completely. Nothing shows on the finished wall, inside or out.
And that same spline system is why the finished panel stays drum tight for years: the screen is held by a vinyl cord wedged into the channel under tension — no staples, no glue, no fasteners through the mesh. Exactly how your lanai was screened the day it was built.
How Much Does It Cost?
The kit is the most affordable way to add a dog door to a lanai, because there's no glass work, no wall cutting, and no on site fabrication — the kit is standardized, pre-assembled, and ships fast. Pricing depends on the SB4 size and options, the length of framing your panel needs, and whether you add professional installation. Call 855-DOG-DOOR or use the quote form above — most customers receive a firm price the same day.
Lanai Dog Door Kit — Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is the Portal Pros Lanai Kit? Everything needed to add a dog door to a screened lanai, pool cage or porch enclosure, in one box: the SB4 Screen Dog Door sized to your pet, pre-assembled trim to fit framing bars, pet resistant screen, spline, color matched screws, the roller tool, and illustrated instructions matched to your labeled parts.
Will it fit my lanai? Yes — any of them. The door clamps only onto the kit's own bars, never your framing, so it fits every enclosure regardless of frame thickness, brand or material. Your lanai is never cut or modified.
Can the door really go anywhere in the panel? Anywhere along the wall, in any panel you choose. The kit bars frame the opening at whatever spot works best for your pet, resting on the bottom rail at a natural step over height.
How hard is the install? If you can drive a screw, you can do this — most customers finish in about an hour. The bars arrive pre-joined, screw points are marked, and the only screws you drive are the anchors, which end up hidden under the spline. Or add professional installation and our licensed and/or insured installer does everything.
Will I see screws on the finished wall? No. Every anchor screw head sits inside the bar's spline channel, and the screen and spline roll in right over them. Zero visible hardware, inside and out.
Will it match my white or bronze enclosure? Yes. The SB4 and the framing bars both come in White and Dark Bronze — customers regularly tell us the finished door blends in so well their dogs needed a few treats to find it.
Do I have to cut anything? Just two straight trims. The tall bars ship at a standard length that fits panels up to 8 feet, and you trim them to your panel height with a hacksaw — about two minutes total, and both cut ends end up hidden under the rail overlaps. Every other part is ready straight out of the box.
What do you need from me to order? Three things: your pet's shoulder height and widest point, your framing color (White or Bronze), and ideally a photo of the panel so we can confirm your setup. Text them to 719-301-7678 and we'll quote the same day.
Can the door be closed off? Yes. The SB4's blocking panel slides in to close the opening completely — handy for storms, travel or keeping wildlife out overnight.
Do you install nationwide? Yes. Kits ship nationwide, and our network of licensed, bonded and/or insured installers covers the country, with deep coverage in Florida and other lanai heavy states.
